Between deployments, PCS moves, and the realities of military pay, your credit history can have gaps that a civilian lender doesn't understand. GetKarr connects you with lenders across all 50 states who work specifically with active-duty service members, veterans, and military families — and who know how to read a military income and credit file fairly.
How the SCRA Protects You
The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) caps interest on most debts you took on before entering active duty at 6% APR while you're on active duty — and the amount above 6% is forgiven, not deferred. New loans taken out during your service aren't automatically capped, but many lenders offer military rates that are competitive. Knowing this right before you apply lets you hold lenders to it.
- ✓ Caps pre-service debt at 6% APR during active duty (excess forgiven)
- ✓ Applies to auto loans, credit cards, and most other consumer debt
- ✓ You must request the cap and provide military orders / active-duty verification
- ✓ New loans during service aren't automatically capped — ask about military rates
Military-Friendly Income Counts
Many lenders trip over military pay because it looks different from a civilian W-2. The lenders in our network understand and accept:
- ✓ Base pay plus BAH, BAS, and special/hazardous-duty pay
- ✓ Military retirement pay as stable income
- ✓ VA disability compensation as qualifying income
- ✓ Allotment-based payments sent straight from military pay
- ✓ Spouse income for joint applications during deployments
Financing While Deployed or During a PCS
You can finance a vehicle and arrange delivery around a deployment or a move. With a power of attorney, your spouse or a trusted family member can sign and take delivery on your behalf. An allotment routes the payment directly from your military pay, so nothing lapses while you're focused on the mission. Plan the delivery timing so the vehicle arrives when you arrive at your new duty station — and never have it shipped to an address you've already left.
